Barefoot College Guatemala

Barefoot College Guatemala inaugurated the center located in the village of Batzul, Quiché on 30 April, 2022.

The facilities are under the agreement with Chajulenese Association -legal entity of indigenous women with 30 years of existence-.

To date, four generations of Solar Mamas have been studied at the center: 45 indigenous women from 20 years old up to 71 years old are now Solar Engineers and have electrified 1500 households bringing access to energy for 7000 people.

Barefoot College Guatemala has long term partnerships and agreements with Puma Energy Foundation, the World Food program, Chajulense Association and the Ministry of Energy of Guatemala creating a great platform of innovation and generation changes for the energy public policy to bring access to electricity for the poorest in the country. 

Barefoot College Guatemala received the Presidential Environmental Medal in december 2022; it's the highest recognition by the National Government for entities or individuals who are creating a huge change in the environmental scoop.

Barefoot College Guatemala is a legal entity under guatemala law created in 2023 with full jurisdiction to operate in the country with a variety of projects as: Solar Program, Enriche, Coffee workshops and Drone Pilots for indigenous women.
